Water Wise
Tapping into smarter choices
Using Eco DrinkShield with the bottles you do buy, and choosing one of these options for refilling those bottles, is a winning combination for your budget and our planet.
We love tap water. And we're proud that here in the U.S. we have some of the finest municipal tap water in the world. What's more, there's plenty of solid science to prove it. In Southern California for example, the water is tested every 30 seconds for purity.
American municipalities publish an annual consumer confidence report that contains local drinking water quality information. You can look up yours here. Meanwhile, bottled water companies are not required to publish their water purity statistics or make that information available to consumers.
Home Filtration
Municipal drinking water undergoes rigorous treatment and a multitude of test to ensure its safety and quality. However, it does have to travel through many pipes before it comes out of your faucet. If the plumbing in your home or your neighborhood is old or improperly maintained you may wish to consider filtration options if the water's color and taste are not to your liking. You'll be enjoying water again without the added expense and waste of buying bottled water.
Pitcher Style Filtration
Inexpensive and readily available in many grocery stores, this type of filtration greatly improves the taste and provides better protection for water from the tap. Offers a quick and convenience way to begin filtering your water at home to use with your Eco DrinkShield. As an added benefit, these pitchers can be easily stored in the refrigerator for chilled water.
Popular brands include Brita and Pur and the newest one Zero Water with a 5-stage Patented Ion Exchange Filter and a easy dispenser spigot on the bottom of the handle.
Faucet Mount Filtration
2-3 stage Faucet Mount filter installs on any standard faucet in minutes and without tools. This design provides filtration on demand and usually has a by-pass option that makes it easy to quickly switch to unfiltered water when washing dishes. Typically, these filters last longer and filter more water per month than the pitcher type filters. Both Brita and Pur also make these type.

| We highly recommend RO systems like this one from APEC FreeDrinkingWater.com |
Reverse Osmosis (RO) Systems
5 stage undercounter filter systems make ultra-clean, ultra-safe water up to 99% free of unwanted substances commonly found in tap and well water. This technology is used by most leading water bottling plants. RO systems can be further combined with a Ultra Violet Light (UV) module to kill bacteria, viruses, and other microorganisms for the absolute best possible water filtration at home. The installation can be done by a handyman or plumber and these systems last 10+ years with only simple annual filter changes. Plus, the small RO faucet is the perfect size for easy refilling of your bottles with the Eco DrinkShield.
Bulk Water

Simply buying water in larger sizes reduces the cost per gallon and eliminates more plastic. Select the 2 1/2 gallon size, which stores nicely on your counter top or in the refrigerator, or select the 1 gallon size.
Water Delivery Service for your home or office brings the convenience of 5 gallon size bottles to you without having to carry water home from the store. Refilling your bottle with the Eco DrinkShield from a water cooler is easy and often gives you the choice or room temperature or chilled water. The 5 gallon bottles are reused and eliminate plastic waste. We suggest looking for delivery service that offers glass or BPA-free plastic containers.
Filtered Water Vending Machines or Water Stores
In many locations there are now water vending machines or water stores that you can bring your own container to refill. These places typically offer multiple types of filtration, including RO, for much cheaper prices per gallon than buying bottled water or having it delivered. Be sure to check what type of filtration each location offers.
